How Perle is using her Manual of Me

Perle Laouenan, a strategic facilitator, shares how she uses Manual of Me to reduce unnecessary conflict or missunderstandings between team members, and create deeper conversations and increased curiousity.

Why are you using Manual of Me in your practice, why do you think it’s a powerful tool/framework/concept?

As a Strategist Facilitator regularly working with teams during 1-2 day off sites I’ve seen that teams really benefit from having space made to be more open about how and why they work the way they do.

I’ve found the questions lead to deeper conversations and increased curiosity for each other.

And therefore with vulnerability and openness teams can be much more transparent about their individual needs and styles of working.

How are you currently using it, and in what contexts/settings?

I use MoM when facilitating leadership team offsite. Particularly for teams that struggle with conflict or who are a mix of new and old members.

Sometimes we use the MoM questions as prompts for them to reflect on the discussion during after-lunch walks.

If the team needs more focus then we will give the individuals more time to reflect on themselves before hanging their MoM on the wall so they can read and reflect on their MoM as a group.

What benefits have you seen from using the concept?

It invites important discussions within teams - and can contribute to a reduction in unnecessary conflict or missunderstandings between team members.

###What advice would you give to someone considering using the Manual of Me for the first time? There are so many varying ways you can incorporate MoM - you can start by simply giving your team the questions that can trigger valuable conversations - and invite deeper reflection.

Or you can incorporate it as your onboarding process with new team members and have other members of their teams available for them to look at.

Manual of Me® is a framework for exploring and communicating how you work better together with others.
